Dean of the School of Nursing

Description

The Dean of the School of Nursing is responsible to lead CIU in the development and effective implementation of nursing programs consistent with its educational mission.Ìý Activities for achieving this goal include development of nursing programs in alignment with CIU’s mission and vision; articulating the mission of CIU’s nursing programs; defining the vision for nursing program graduates; identifying and aligning nursing program outcomes with nursing program curricula; evaluation and assessment of nursing programs; selection, supervision, and evaluation of nursing faculty and instructional support personnel; and nursing program policy development, modification, and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan (strategic, tactical, operational) and implement nursing programs and activities conducted to achieve the educational mission and objectives of CIU.
  • Assign, in consultation with other administrators, faculty teaching, advising, and other responsibilities.
  • Prepare annual budgets for nursing programs; monitor expenses through budget supervision, and evaluate budget performance.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of nursing program faculty and staff.
  • Conduct assessment activities to improve programmatic effectiveness and to ensure continuing compliance with accreditation criteria.
  • Issue decision/rulings on matters of academic policy and/or procedure with respect to students and/or faculty circumstances in nursing programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation criteria regarding nursing programs, curricula, and faculty.
  • Represent CIU as appropriate both nationally and internationally through professional writing, speaking, and other service opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of historic and current higher educational philosophy, curriculum, and practice in nursing education, especially in the Christian higher education context
  • Knowledge, skills, dispositions, and experience needed to teach within one of the nursing programs of the university.
  • Ability to envision, articulate, and initiate nursing programs and policies which will advance the mission of the university.
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct and lead others in strategic, tactical and operational planning.
  • Knowledge of institutional accreditation standards and policies of relevant accreditation and authorization bodies.
  • Ability to analyze data and other sources of input to assess institutional and program effectiveness and to devise solutions to problems and challenges.
  • Ability to secure cooperation from and foster cooperation among faculty, students, and leaders of other institutional units.
  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets related to nursing programs.
  • Ability to supervise nursing program faculty and staff.
  • Ability to advise and counsel faculty, students and others in personal and professional matters.
  • Ability to speak informatively and persuasively to groups of faculty, students, trustees, accreditation representatives, and various constituent publics.
  • Ability to write clear and cogent reports, catalog text, memoranda and letters, academic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to model or demonstrate servant leadership, a desire to grow spiritually, personal and professional integrity across all duties and relationships, and life-long learning.
  • Previous teaching or administrative experience in Christian higher education.
  • Proficiency in administrative and instructional technology applications.Ìý
  • Graduate degree in nursing required; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in higher education administration and/or teaching.
