Students welcomed to new Health Science Lab
August 23, 2022
The first students attending the first class in 小猪视频鈥檚 new Health Science Lab, were met with a large display of the theme verse for Health Science:
Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. (Luke 9:6)
The Dean of Science Programs, Dr. David DeWitt, says that while 鈥渋t鈥檚 not a verse that people typically memorize,鈥 it underscores the calling of believers in the science and health care professions."
The lab is a part of CIU鈥檚 new emphasis on health science including a new major in Biomedical Science听and the new residential听offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Over a dozen courses will be taught at the lab including biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, and anatomy and physiology.听State-of-the-art equipment in the lab includes:
- Top-of-the-line Leica microscopes for looking at cells and tissues at high magnification
- A spectrophotometer used for chemical analysis and measuring rates of chemical or enzyme reactions
- Gel electrophoresis for analysis of DNA and proteins.
鈥淚 am very excited to contribute to CIU鈥檚 mission to educate students from the biblical worldview with an emphasis on health and science,鈥 DeWitt said.听鈥淭hese new well-equipped labs will help CIU contribute to the STEM and healthcare workforce in South Carolina and the world.鈥
